A global problem​

Despite global efforts, modern slavery is widespread in 2024, with 167 countries harboring an estimated 46 million slaves, including forced labor and sexual exploitation. Modern slavery's definitions have evolved, encompassing not only 'ownership' but also forced marriages, government-imposed labor, and human trafficking.

The national picture

Human trafficking is a federal crime in the US of course, defined as using force, fraud, or coercion to compel someone into labor or commercial sex. The US State Department estimates that 80% of internationally trafficked victims are female, and 70% of those are trafficked into the sex industry. That does not address the large numbers of internally trafficked individuals. 

​According to a February 2024 report to Congress, the number of victims of severe human trafficking in the US is either significantly increasing or very significant. The report also states that the country is not taking proportional action, and that there is no evidence of increased efforts to combat trafficking since the previous year. These efforts include increased investigations, prosecutions, and convictions, increased assistance to victims, and decreasing evidence of government officials' complicity in severe trafficking

The link between trafficking and pornagrify

Porn has been a part of the human experience since the first cave drawings and reshaping societies up to the present, case in point Starlink internet to the Amazon.  Even if we set aside the legitimate issue of addiction and depression,  the link between the porn industry and human trafficking can't be over stated and should not be ignored.  

Pornography and human trafficking are linked in several ways, including:
  • Training
    Traffickers use pornography to train victims on sexual acts and situations that buyers prefer. Nearly half of sex trafficking victims report that pornography was made of them while they were in bondage.
  • Psychological control
    Traffickers may force victims into pornography for psychological control.
  • Profit
    The sex industry, which includes pornography, can provide wealth for traffickers, who may target all ages from whom they might profit.
  • Culture
    Pornography can create a climate that tolerates and encourages violence and exploitation of women and children. 

According to the The Freedom Youth Project Foundation,  thousands of trafficked children and young adults are forced to make pornographic films. The second is that those addicted to pornography eventually lose satisfaction with just watching sexual encounters and seek encounters with trafficked persons.

Using a highly relational and collaborative approach, they give children on-the-ground help exclusively in the U.S. by utilizing strategic partnerships with law enforcement, social service providers and schools, while mobilizing communities to prevent abuse and increase neighborhood safety.
